Best AI Recruiting Agents for Engineering Hires (2026)

Sourcing agents, screening agents and agents with a vetted bench behind them: a fair comparison of the AI recruiting agents that matter for engineering roles, with prices where they are published.

The best AI recruiting agents for engineering hires in 2026 split into three camps: sourcing agents that find and message people (LinkedIn Hiring Assistant, hireEZ, Gem, Juicebox), screening agents that interview them (Eightfold, HeyMilo, Metaview's agents), and agents that come with engineers already vetted (that's where our own, Sol, sits). Which one is "best" depends on what's actually slow in your hiring. For most startups the slow part is proving which engineers can do the work. Finding them is the easy half.

I run a staffing company and I built one of the agents on this list, so read this with that in mind. I've tried to describe each product by what its own pages say, and I've left out prices that aren't published.

Key Takeaways

  • Sourcing agents are the most mature category. They save hours of searching and messaging but hand you unproven candidates.
  • Screening agents now run technical and coding interviews, which became widely available in 2026 and is worth testing.
  • Most vendors don't publish prices. Gem and Juicebox are the main exceptions.
  • Pick by your bottleneck: no candidates, too many unqualified candidates, or no time to interview.

Sourcing agents

LinkedIn Hiring Assistant is the biggest name. It turns a job description into a pipeline, searches LinkedIn by skills, and messages candidates. It's sold as a per-seat add-on to LinkedIn Recruiter, and Hiring Assistant 2, announced in September 2026, adds memory and ATS-connected talent pools. We wrote a full LinkedIn Hiring Assistant review.

hireEZ calls itself an agentic AI recruiting platform that sources across 45+ platforms and "a billion-plus profiles", then runs email outreach on top of your ATS. Good if you want to search well beyond LinkedIn.

Gem has an AI sourcing agent, an app review agent and a fraud detection agent, plus its own ATS and CRM. Its pricing page lists a startup program at $130 a month for companies with 1 to 10 employees, billed yearly. For a seed-stage team of ten or fewer, that's the cheapest published price for a full sourcing-plus-ATS stack here.

Juicebox lets you search people in plain English ("senior Rust engineers who worked on databases, in Toronto") and run agents that keep searching. It raised a $30M Series A led by Sequoia in 2025 and counts Cognition, Ramp and Perplexity as customers. Prices on its pricing page start at $99 per seat per month.

Screening agents

Eightfold added coding and functional interviews to its AI Interviewer in April 2026. It says the interviewer doesn't evaluate video, biometrics or tone, which is the right call.

HeyMilo pitches itself as the AI recruiter for teams swamped by applications: automated phone screens, video and SMS, in more than 20 languages. Useful when you have hundreds of applicants and a recruiter drowning in first calls.

Metaview started as an interview notetaker and now sells agents for sourcing, screening and scheduling; you pay only for the agents you use. If your interviewers hate writing feedback, start there.

Workday and Paradox: Workday closed its Paradox acquisition in October 2025. Paradox is a conversational agent for frontline, high-volume hiring. Great for hiring 300 warehouse staff. Not built for a staff engineer.

A note on two names you'll see in older lists. Mercor now describes itself as organizing human intelligence for the AI economy, placing experts on AI-lab work, so it's no longer a recruiting tool for your team. micro1's Zara interviewer vets micro1's own contractors, not your applicants.

Agents with a vetted bench behind them

This is the camp we're in, so I'll keep it factual. Sol is our AI hiring agent. You describe the role on our homepage and, when the stack is on our bench, Sol shows up to three blind profiles in the chat. Every engineer behind them passed a graded coding assessment at 70 out of 100 or better and an AI-led technical interview at 3.0 out of 5 or better. About 1 in 5 applicants clears both. The vetted shortlist comes within 72 hours; onboarding takes another two to three weeks. In the Sol app at sol.ruzora.com you can also build scorecards, job posts and interview kits.

The difference from the other camps: you aren't searching a pool, you're picking from people with evidence already attached. The limit is the same thing. Our bench is senior LATAM engineers on contract, and it's dozens of people, not millions of profiles.

A Concrete Version

A 9-person seed company needs one senior Go engineer in six weeks, and the founder is also the CTO.

With Gem at $130 a month, the founder gets a solid pipeline and outreach, then spends maybe 10 hours interviewing. With an Eightfold or HeyMilo screen in front, those 10 hours might drop to 5, but you'd likely need an enterprise contract. With Sol, if Go is on the bench the founder sees blind profiles the same day, gets a vetted shortlist within 72 hours, and after a short call and a signed MSA interviews two or three of them. That's maybe 3 hours of founder time, then two to three weeks to onboard.

Three tools, three different bills, and the right one depends on whether the founder's scarce resource is money or hours.

The Honest Counterpoint

If you're hiring full-time US employees at volume, a vetted bench isn't the right primary tool. You want a sourcing agent plugged into your ATS, a screening agent for the first round, and your own interviewers for the rest. And any agent that interviews candidates has a trust problem: Greenhouse found that 38% of job seekers walked away from a process because it included an AI interview. Senior engineers have options. Test how your agent feels from the candidate's side before you roll it out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best AI recruiting agent for startups?

For a small team with no recruiter, Gem's startup plan is the cheapest full sourcing stack we found with published pricing. If you'd rather skip sourcing and interview already-vetted engineers, try Sol on our homepage.

Can AI recruiting agents run technical interviews?

Some can. Eightfold added coding interviews in 2026, and HackerRank and CodeSignal sell AI interviewers. Keep a human reviewing every result; we cover this in AI interview software for screening.

Do AI recruiting agents replace recruiters?

Not yet. They remove searching, messaging and scheduling. Judgment, closing and candidate relationships still need a person. More in can AI replace recruiters.

The Bottom Line

Buy the agent that matches your bottleneck. No candidates: a sourcing agent. Too many unqualified ones: a screening agent. No time to interview at all: candidates who arrive already vetted. For most engineering seats at a startup, the last one saves the most senior hours.
